The Perceptual Window: Head Motion as a New Input Stream
نویسنده
چکیده
We introduce a novel interaction technique using head motions to control the location of a window viewpoint within its document space. Head motion is acquired by a non-intrusive head-tracker using computer vision. The tracking technique used in the system, namely correlation matching, is described in order to exhibit its strengths and weaknesses in the context of tightly coupled interaction. The output of the tracker is used in both a rate control interaction and a position control interaction. The benefit is demonstrated by two user studies built around two common GUI tasks: navigating in a two-dimensional document space, and moving an object from one place to another in a document. Our system, The Perceptual Window, allows significant improvements in task completion time after a short learning period.

Gesture termination algorithm for continuous input techniques
Many designs have been proposed to improve head tracking interfaces. However, in most head tracking applications, only a click to select is commonly available interaction style. In this paper we present an algorithm which integrates the parameters of the continuous input stream (movement acceleration and the amount of movement) and information concerning the user choice. The results of the test...

This study sought to investigate the effect of the two input types interactionally modified input (IM) and textual input enhancement (TIE), the impact of a commonly used learning styles taxonomy as the Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic learning styles (VAK) by itself as well as the interactional effect of perceptual learning styles and input types on the causative construction development of EFL...
متن کاملHydraulic Network Modeling to Analyze Stream Flow Effectiveness on Heat Transfer Performance of Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
In this article, stream flow effectivness is based on hydraulic network studied in the shell-side of a shell and tube heat exchange as a case study. For an appropriate heat exchangers rating design to meet a specified duty, it's better to consider each stream flow separately. Using the hydraulic network principals, a set of the correlations for calculating different stream flow rates in the cro...
متن کاملPerceptual-binding and persistent surface segregation
Visual input is segregated in the brain into subsystems that process different attributes such as motion and color. At the same time, visual information is perceptually segregated into objects and surfaces. Here we demonstrate that perceptual segregation of visual entities based on a transparency cue precedes and affects perceptual binding of attributes. Adding an irrelevant transparency cue pa...
متن کاملExploring Vision-Based Interfaces: How to Use Your Head in Dual Pointing Tasks
The utility of vision-based face tracking for dual pointing tasks is evaluated. We first describe a 3-D face tracking technique based on real-time parametric motion-stereo, which is non-invasive, robust, and self-initialized. The tracker provides a real-time estimate of a “frontal face ray” whose intersection with the display surface plane is used as a second stream of input for scrolling or po...
